Iconic Legacy Scholarship 2024-2025
Description
The ICONIC Legacy Scholarship was established in 2022 by the Wastyn Family. The scholarship supports a Fourth Year West Side Dance Company member who embodies the spirit that life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain. That is exactly what the West Side Dance Company did in 2020 when their show was canceled. The dancers channeled their emotions into a moving video performance that year which was circulated online instead. https://youtu.be/U-B2FMqoxnY

On March 12, 2020 the West Side Dance Company Show was cancelled 90 minutes before curtain opening night due to the pandemic. Although there was school the next day, nobody could have predicted at that time the future that awaited everyone. There would be no more in person school, prom or graduation that year. The 2020 ICONIC show would be forever “The Show That Didn’t Happen”.
Almost a years worth of planning, choreography, fundraising, and rehearsal was never realized. There was no performance in front of an audience. No family and friends. No IHS state performance. No rite of passage performance by the Fourth Year Dancers memorializing their final goodbye. The only remnant of the moment that survives is rehearsal footage. https://youtu.be/H2mX0ym4qGM To honor those dancers, the ICONIC Legacy Scholarship is committed to helping the next dancer in line.
