2026 Kent-Holbert Scholarship
Description
Mrs. Jean Holbert Kent established the Kent-Holbert Scholarship Endowment upon her death in 2014. The $4,000 renewable scholarship honors the memory of Kenneth Nelson Kent,
Summerson B. Holbert and Nannie B. Landes Holbert.
The scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a degree in higher education in a health care field or an area of study which supports health care. Adult students pursuing a nursing
vocation, advancing a career in nursing or another health care field are also eligible to apply. Applicants must have historical ties to Augusta County or Nelson County, including the cities
within those counties.
The scholarship is administrated by the Community Partnership Committee of the Augusta Health Board of Directors. Scoring of applications will be based on academic field of study,
financial need, residency and academic achievement. Applicants must show evidence of satisfactory academic performance, with a minimum 2.0 GPA. Applications will also be scored
on personal qualifications such as goal setting and self-motivation.
Completed applications must be submitted by midnight on March 4, 2026. The scholarship award recipient will be notified at the end of May and recognized at a future meeting of the
Community Partnership Committee.
The scholarship will award tuition and on-campus housing costs directly to the educational institution. The scholarship will be awarded in two equal disbursements; the first at the
beginning of the fall semester and the second at the beginning of the spring semester.
Qualifications
The scholarship is renewable annually for up to three years as long as the awardee meets the following criteria:
Evidence of good academic standing and maintains a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA
(with verification by submission of an official transcript)
Submits a declaration of financial need
A letter including the renewal criteria listed above and an official transcript from the
Office of the Registrar is due by June 1st of each year to the Augusta Health Scholarship Committee.
