Description
The Community Roots Scholarship supports college students who are deeply connected to their communities and committed to advancing environmental justice, equity, and community leadership. BAAQMD is investing in the next generation of leaders from the communities most impacted by environmental, social, and economic inequities — and creating a long-term pathway connecting community-rooted talent to Air District careers and public service.
Qualifications
Required
Currently enrolled at an accredited 2- or 4-year college or university
In good academic standing as determined by their institution — no minimum GPA
Connected to the Bay Area, Northern California, or a community impacted by environmental, social, or economic inequities
Who Should Apply
Students who are connected to the Bay Area or Northern California, demonstrate leadership, service, or commitment to community change in any form, and are in good academic standing.
Field of Study
All majors are eligible. Preference is given to students in fields aligned with Air District work and public service, including engineering, environmental science, meteorology, air monitoring and data, policy and compliance, community engagement, communications, administrative resources, human resources, finance, and accounting.
Leadership Definition
Formal leadership is NOT required. Leadership includes caregiving, community organizing, peer mentoring, advocacy, cultural leadership, or informal support roles.
