Internships

For more than 30 years the Our World-Underwater Scholarship Society™ (OWUSS) has offered a variety of experience-based internships. Our goal is to foster the development of future leaders of the marine environment. We continue to believe that by investing in distinctive young people, through exposure to a broad array of activities in the underwater community with access to influential people who are leaders in aquatic disciplines, we are investing in the future of our oceans and lakes. For 2026, OWUSS is accepting applications for the following internships:

• AAUS Mitchell Scientific Diving Research Internship

• Dr. Lee H. Somers AAUS Scientific Diving Internship

• National Park Service Research Internship

• Dr. Jamie L. King REEF Marine Conservation Internship

• Paul L. Schutt Underwater Photography Internship

For 2026, the DAN Internships will be administered directly by Divers Alert Network.

• Dr. Glen H. Egstrom DAN Diver's Health and Safety Research Internship

• DAN Diver's Safety Internship

Scholarships

After considerable thought and discussion, the Society is suspending Scholarship awards in all three regions - North America, Europe, and Australasia - for 2026.  OWUSS is taking this time to review the mission and goals of the Society and determine the best path forward.  As we do so, we will seek enhanced engagement with our alumni, hosts, sponsors, and other interested parties. In the interim, we encourage you to consider one of our amazing internships. The Internship program will continue as usual.

The deadline for applications for the internships is on January 31, 2026 at 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time (PST).
