Description

The Society of Petroleum Engineers Gulf Coast Section Scholarship 2026-2027 will open on December 1st, 2025.


The Society of Petroleum Engineers Gulf Coast Section Scholarship is for high school students planning to study science or engineering with an interest in the energy industry. The scholarship is a renewable yearly scholarship, up to 4 years (currently paying $2,000/semester, $4,000/academic year). After the first year, students must meet certain requirements to remain eligible for subsequent scholarship renewals (GPA, full-time student, and major - details upon request).


NOTE: To complete the application, you will need to collect several documents, listed below:

  1. Letters of recommendation provided by a 3rd party recommender. (2 minimum)

  2. Copy of High School Transcript including fall semester of senior year

  3. SAT or ACT Score Report, if available

  4. Personal Statement/Essay addressing your interest in the energy industry (including nuclear, hydrogen, oil and gas, geothermal, and carbon capture and storage)

Selection Process

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • Be a graduating high school senior intending to study engineering at an ABET-accredited university; preference to those studying petroleum, chemical, nuclear, mechanical engineering, geology and geophysics

  • Have a permanent residence in one of the 29 counties in the SPE Gulf Coast Section (Austin, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Chambers, Colorado, Fayette, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Jasper, Jefferson, Lee, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Newton, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, Trinity, Tyler, Walker, Waller, Washington, and Wharton)

  • U.S. citizen or a permanent resident
