Welcome to STEP ONE of the Wings Over America Scholarship process, Pre-Qualification.
The pre-qualification portion of the application determines for both WOASF and Administered Scholarship applicants
the applicant's dependent status
the applicant's sponsor's Time in Service* (minimum of 8 years) within US Navy aviation and subordinate commands**
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY & RECEIVE THE WINGS OVER AMERICA SCHOLARSHIP?
Dependent children and spouses of active duty, retired, honorably discharged, or deceased U. S. Navy Aviation personnel, Enlisted or Officer.
New this year: Grandchildren of retired, honorably discharged, or deceased U.S. Navy Aviation personnel, Enlisted or Officer.
~Dependent Children: unmarried natural-born, adopted, or stepchildren (up to the age of 23 of the application year) who are graduating seniors or current college/trade school students.
~Grandchildren: unmarried natural-born or adopted (up to the age of 23 of the application year) who are graduating seniors or current college/trade school students.
The following are the minimum overall GPA requirements for this scholarship:
High School: 3.0
College Freshman: 2.5
College Sophomore, Junior or Senior: 3.0
Military Spouse: 2.5
The pre-qualification portion of the application MUST be completed and submitted by February 1st at 5:00 PM EST. No exceptions are made to our deadlines.

*SPONSOR'S TIME IN SERVICE REQUIREMENT
The applicant's sponsor must have served at least eight (8) years of active duty, or ADSD (Active-Duty Special Duty), such as a reservist who has been called upon to work full-time for a specified amount of time in an aviation or subordinate command, or a combination of both within the U.S. Navy aviation community. These periods may be non-consecutive and DO NOT include time spent in flight school.

**QUALIFYING COMMANDS
The sponsor must have served within the U.S. Naval Aviation community. These include subordinate activities and commands, both ashore and afloat, whose primary mission is in support of U.S. Naval Aviation.
These include:
Aviation squadrons (manned and unmanned)
Aircraft Carriers
Aviation Wings and Staffs (including CNATRA)
Naval Air Systems Commands to include headquarters staff, PEOs and subordinate commands
Naval Air Station-assignment must relate directly to aircraft operations (additional documentation may be required)
Assignments to non-aviation activities, where the sponsor's billet assignment related directly to the operation, equipping, instruction, or training of aviation assets of Commander, Naval Air Forces (additional documentation may be required)

Already Pre-Qualified? Applicants who pre-qualified in a previous scholarship season must still complete Step I, the Pre-Qualification, by the February 1st at 5 PM EST deadline. However, they will not be required to enter sponsor command information or upload eligibility documents.
Siblings Pre-Qualified: All applicants must complete STEP I, the Pre-Qualification, by February 1st at 5 PM EST. If an applicant’s sibling has pre-qualified within the last five years, the applicant is not required to enter sponsor command information or upload eligibility documents, other than proof of sponsor dependency. If the applicant's siblings' pre-qualification is older than five years, command information and eligibility documents will be required.

About Wings Over America Scholarship Foundation
OUR MISSION is to honor the service of Navy aviation families through educational scholarships.
WOASF provides post-secondary scholarships to dependent children and spouses of all US Navy personnel - enlisted and officer - active duty, retired, honorably discharged or deceased who have served a minimum of 8 years in Navy aviation commands. Recipients are selected on the basis of scholastic merit, community service, extra-curricular activities and character.
Scholarships may be used for trade school certification, community college or four-year university/college undergraduate study and cover tuition and mandatory fees only at an accredited institution.
If an applicant's tuition and mandatory fees are FULLY COVERED by using other scholarships from their institution, ROTC scholarships, or Post 9/11 Bill/Yellow Ribbon benefits, they are ineligible to receive a scholarship. Students attending service academies are also ineligible.
