The Appalachian Habitat Association Scholarship 2025

Description

The Appalachian Habitat Association (AHA) is offering up to seven (7) scholarships totaling $30,000 that will be awarded this summer to students who are currently or are planning to pursue an education that will lead to a two-year or higher degree in a course of study associated with Forestry, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Biology, Habitat Management, Conservation Resources, Conservation Criminal Justice or a similar field associated with improving wildlife habitat and/or protecting wildlife. The non-profit AHA will accept applications from 2025 graduating high school seniors and post-secondary students currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate programs at Mountain Gateway Community College, Va. Tech or any other in-state or out-of-state institution with an accredited program as identified above. Scholarships in the amounts of $8,000 to $2,000 will be awarded to the top seven (7) applicants, respectively.

Qualifications

  • Students from the Counties of Alleghany, Augusta, Botetourt, Bath, Craig, Highland and Rockbridge, and the Cities of Buena Vista, Covington, Lexington, Staunton and Waynesboro are eligible for the scholarships.

  • Students must support the preservation of the hunting tradition.

  • Students must demonstrate ability as a leader among his or her peers. Plus, students must submit an essay exhibiting dedication to wildlife conservation (see application).

  • Three letters of recommendation must be submitted for the applicant (i.e. teacher, counselor, community leader, employer).

  • Applicants must submit applications through the AHA Scholarship Application portal at https://apply.mykaleidoscope.com/program/AHAScholarship2025 by midnight May 31, 2025. Employees and Board Members of the AHA and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate in the program.

Selection Process

The AHA Scholarship Committee will review and score applications by mid-June and announce recipients by email as soon as practical after reaching a consensus. AHA Scholarship Committee decisions are final.

The top Scholarship winner will receive $8,000. Other scholarship winners will be awarded amounts between $2,000 and $8,000.

Disbursement of Funds: Students may use their scholarship at any accredited institution of higher education (Community College, Technical College, College or University). The AHA will work with the student and the college financial aid officers in determining the payee when the check is issued. This will ensure the greater benefit to the recipient and avoid violation of eligibility requirements.
