Description
The scholarship awards are to be used by the recipients for education and/or related expenses.
All scholarships awarded by the Hotel Association of North Texas are considered to be grants, not loans.
Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.
A panel will review and rate the applications and scholarship awards will be based solely on these ratings.
This scholarship will be paid in two installments. The first installment of the scholarship (50%) is distributed directly to the school (or recipient) upon receipt of proof of enrollment in the required hours.
Applicants will be notified of their status via e-mail.
Scholarship awardees will be invited to accept their award at the Hotel Association of North Texas’ Annual HOSPY Awards and Gala at the Renaissance Dallas on November 20, 2025.

The Hotel Association of North Texas is pleased to offer the Alex Seymour Undergraduate Degree Scholarship as an opportunity to provide hotel and hospitality management, and culinary arts college students with tuition assistance and industry recognition.
Selection Process
In order for a student to be eligible, they must:
Be a current resident of the DFW/North Texas area.
Complete the online application submission by deadline.
Be enrolled in an in-state accredited secondary education program studying in a four-year program for a degree in Hotel/Restaurant and/or Hospitality Industry Management.
Provide proof of registration or enrollment for full-time for completion of 12 hours minimum per semester, in an accredited hospitality-related degree program in an institution of higher learning, in order to obtain a hospitality related degree.
Provide the Association with the required documentation that the 12 hours were completed. If this is unable to be provided, the applicant will not be eligible to receive the second portion of their scholarship. (Proof of registration for 2nd semester and transcripts or failure to complete 1st semester will result in a forfeiture of second term scholarship and future HANTX Scholarships.)
Have and maintain at least a 2.75 GPA (on a 4.0 scale.)
Essay Submission (may be written, a personal video or in a PowerPoint Presentation format.)
Essay – not more than 500 words
Personal Video – not more than 5 minutes
PowerPoint Presentation – no more than 25 slides, saved in a PDF format
Provide transcripts (may be official or unofficial).
Provide a Resume.
Provide one letter of recommendation.
The Hotel Association of North Texas (HANTX) is a not-for-profit trade organization that has been in existence and working with hoteliers in the North Texas region for more than 99 years to strengthen the industry. We support the industry through advocacy efforts, educational programming and scholarships and take part in efforts to give back to our community through various volunteer opportunities.
Established in 1993, the Alex Seymour Scholarship Program has been used as a vehicle to encourage and support hospitality education at the associate and undergraduate degree levels. The scholarship was named for Alex Seymour, a former General Manager was well-known for mentoring hoteliers and supporting the industry here in North Texas.
