Description
The Athena Scholarship offered by the Green Beret Foundation provides educational support to deserving spouses within the U.S. Army Special Forces community pursuing their undergraduate and graduate degrees. Athena Scholarship funds are to be used for tuition. Funds will be issued directly to the applicant's academic institution. Scholarship awardees will be contacted on or before May 1, 2026.
Qualifications
Applicants must be a spouse of a current or former U.S. Army Special Forces soldier. Spouses of U.S. Army Special Forces soldiers killed in action are not eligible for this scholarship. The applicant must have been accepted by or currently enrolled at an accredited undergraduate or graduate institution. The following documentation is required for an application to be considered:
DD 214 Form Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, Current (within the last year) Enlisted Record Brief, Officer Record Brief, or Soldier Talent Profile reflecting U.S. Army Special Forces qualification of sponsor to be submitted with scholarship application. Award letters will not be accepted.,
Proof of enrollment at an accredited undergraduate or graduate institution. Acceptable proof includes: acceptance letter if this is your first semester at the educational institution, or most recent transcript if you have been attending the educational institution,
A personal statement (500-1000 words) explaining how your experiences as a spouse of a U.S. Army Special Forces soldier have affected you, your financial need for the scholarship, and your personal and educational goals for the future. Please do not include sponsor's name or Special Forces Group (1st, 3rd, 5th, etc.) affiliations within the statement.
