Build Hope Scholarship Program 2025
Description
Investing in our youth will help our residents to reach their goals. Build Hope, Inc., is HACLA’s non profit affiliate which provides scholarships to encourage students to pursue higher education following high school. In collaboration with the Community Safety Partnership Bureau (CSPB), the program is open to public housing, Section 8, and CSP residents who are graduating high school seniors or have a GED/high school equivalency, who are/will be enrolled in a vocational or technical school, community college, or four-year university in the Fall of 2025. In addition, the scholarship application is open to prior scholarship recipients who are continuing scholars enrolled in college, university, technical or vocational programs. Every applicant must show enrollment of at least 6 units.
Scholarships of $750 - $5,000 will be awarded to selected students that participate with Project SOAR's educational navigators.
Selected scholarship recipients must participate in The Build Hope, Inc. Scholarship Celebration. The ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Qualifications
Carefully complete the application. Please list all relevant facts related to your personal and academic achievements. Additional sheets of paper may be attached.
Submit a copy of your most recent transcript with GPA from school. (Unofficial is permitted) If you cannot obtain a transcript, please provide a screenshot of your online grade portals to show current overall GPA.
For transcripts and for proof of class enrollment or future class registration date, your name must be within the document.
For new student applicants, provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher, professor, mentor, advisor, counselor, employer or community leader. The document must contain a letterhead, a signature from the recommender, and contact information for any follow-up questions.
Enclose with your application, a recent photo of yourself, preferably a clear photo of you participating in your community or in school. This photo may be used in marketing materials if you are selected as a scholarship recipient.
For graduating high school seniors/incoming college freshmen, provide a letter of acceptance with your name and term/year from any community college, CSU, UC, or other accredited college, university, and technical school that you will be attending this fall. For all other applicants, provide a registration letter showing proof of continued enrollment that includes (a) your name, (b) the college name, (c) the term (must show Fall 2025), and (d) total unit numbers. Any omission of these requirements may disqualify you from receiving a scholarship for 2025
Selection Process
Applicants must be HACLA residents who will be graduating from an accredited public, charter or private high school in 2025, or have a GED/high school equivalency who plan to pursue a higher education, including prior scholarship recipients who are continuing scholars already enrolled in college or a vocational program.
Applicants must be enrolled in at least 6 units for the 2025 fall term. Incoming freshmen must provide a college acceptance letter while continuing students must provide proof of class enrollment for the fall 2025 term.
Applicants must maintain a minimum of a 2.0 grade point average.
New applicants must have demonstrated strong community involvement.
Applicants must have a valid Social Security Number or IRS issued Tax ID PIN.
Applicants must check-in with Project SOAR a total of two times before the in-person award ceremony occurs
Children or dependents of elected or appointed officials are not eligible.
Children or dependents of HACLA employees are not eligible unless both are residents or Section 8 clients of HACLA.
Build Hope, Inc (BHI), was created under the name Kids Progress Inc. (KPI) in 2002 by the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA), to ensure that residents living in the city’s public housing developments receive the full social, health, educational and work opportunities to which they are entitled, and to enhance quality of life, through long-term academic and economic success.
