Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Scholarship 2025

Eligibility

The Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Scholarship was established in 2020 to benefit JD students who identify as Black, Indigenous, Latino or Latina, Asian-American, Pacific Islander, or other person of color. Law students who demonstrate an interest in working in an area of natural resources or energy law, which includes for purposes of this application oil and gas law, mining law, renewable energy or electricity law, public land law, water law, environmental law, and related areas of Indian and Indigenous Peoples law, and international law.


Scholarship Use

The scholarship must be used for tuition only and must be paid directly to the student’s law school. Scholarships are expected to range between $4,500 and $6,000.

Selection Process

This scholarship will be awarded to applicants who meet the Criteria below and who identify as Black, Indigenous, Latino or Latina, Asian-American, Pacific Islander, or other person of color. To be eligible for this scholarship, a student must be enrolled full time as a JD student at an accredited law school. LL.M. students are not eligible for this scholarship.


  • All applications will be evaluated by The Foundation’s scholarship committee according to an established set of criteria that include:
  • Identifying as Black, Indigenous, Latino or Latina, Asian-American, Pacific Islander, or other person of color
  • Interest in working in an area of natural resources and/or energy law
  • Serious and diligent pursuit of academic achievement, but academic performance is not determinative
  • Leadership ability
  • Year in law school
  • Financial need
  • Foundation student membership, which is free
