Carteret Health offers the following scholarship to individuals pursuing a healthcare career as a Registered Nurse(RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse(LPN). These may be awarded for Associate or Baccalaureate degree programs where a license is obtainable upon graduation. Each scholarship will cover approximately $5,000 per year. Administration of Scholarship
The F. Patrick Ausband Scholarship includes tuition, books and fees required for the approved Nursing program. Background checks, physicals and drug screens required for acceptance into a program do not apply. Carteret Health will reimburse all tuition, fees and books up to $5,000 per year for a maximum of three years.
1. Tuition and Fees will be paid directly to the school.
a. Books can be purchased from the school bookstore whenever and the bookstore/school finance office will bill Carteret Health directly.
b. If books are purchased outside of the school bookstore, or rented, please submit to our online portal (Kaleidoscope) under the reimbursement tab.
2. If a scholarship recipient submits a receipt for reimbursement to themselves instead of the school, the HR and Education departments will decide if this is an appropriate reimbursement and send it through finance accordingly.

Selection Process
Eligible applicants should be residents of counties in Eastern North Carolina. Eligible applicants must be enrolled as a full-time student in an accredited college or university (or enrolled in a North Carolina Board of Nursing approved program) pursuing a nursing degree. The following are eligible for the scholarship: LPN, LPN to ADN Transition Program, ADN, and students enrolled in a RIBN program. Students pursuing a BSN are eligible for the scholarship upon receiving an acceptance letter in the College of Nursing Program at the University level. Scholarship recipients commit to work full time for Carteret Health Care as follows:
● LPN- 1 year
● ADN- 2 years
● aRIBN- 3 years
● RIBN - 3 years
● BSN - Work commitment will match number of years scholarship is provided
Expectations of Recipient:
- Applicant pursues a career in Nursing at Carteret Health Care.
- Maintain good academic standing in his/her School of Nursing, notify [email protected] immediately with any academic issues that may affect continuing enrollment in the program.
- If employed with Carteret Health Care while receiving scholarship funds, applicants must maintain good employment status.
- If the student does not work for the agreed upon years at Carteret Health Care, he/she will be required to reimburse the amount of scholarship awarded plus a 6% penalty.
Scholarship Application Requirements
To be considered, application and all other items must be submitted online by Nov. 20th. Please note, we do NOT accept late items.
1. Application – The application form may be accessed on the Carteret Health Care's website under the Careers tab- Carteret Health Care Scholarships Tab: www.carterethealth.org
2. Letter of acceptance into the Nursing program and college transcripts - Please include an acceptance letter along with your most recent transcript. High school seniors accepted into the RIBN program must include their high school transcript along with any college transcripts. Letter of Acceptance into a Nursing program can be uploaded once you receive the letter. No other forms or application entries will be accepted after Oct. 20th.
3. Two References – Our application will require at least 2 references. One personal and one academic reference. References must be made by a professor, teacher, employer, and/or family friend. If you are a PRN employee, one reference must be from your Director. Immediate family members DO NOT qualify as a reference.
4. Notification of Award - Awardees will be notified in November for the Spring Cohort.
