The Headliners Foundation Scholarship Application 2025-2026

Undergraduate Scholarships

The Headliners Foundation of Texas awards 18-20 scholarships totaling more than $85,000 annually to Texas college students who are preparing for a career in journalism. Undergraduate students attending accredited Texas colleges and universities are eligible to apply. Applicants must demonstrate an active interest in writing and journalism as well as a talent for reporting and storytelling. Work examples of stories published or broadcast by student or professional media organizations are required. Judges also consider the applicants’ academic record, a submitted essay, letters of recommendation, and financial need. Application materials are expected to exhibit a good prose style and the use of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation and attention to detail.

Eligibility is determined per semester, and scholarships are funded by semester. Students who are selected to receive a scholarship must be enrolled for at least nine hours of course work for each semester they are to receive funds. Enrollment is verified prior to distribution and all scholarship funds are forwarded directly to the school. Bess Whitehead Scott Scribes Scholarship
