Volunteer Steering Committee (VSC)

The Volunteer Steering Committee (VSC) plays a strategic role in shaping how volunteers engage, lead, and grow within IAAP. Members help guide a strong, consistent volunteer experience across the association by supporting thoughtful structures, leadership pathways, and practices that align with IAAP’s mission and values.
Purpose and Work of Committee
Ensure all volunteer programs (Coordinators and Directors) align with IAAP’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities. Review and recommend updates to volunteer structures, policies, and SOPs annually. Serve as the central feedback body on how volunteer efforts support department and organizational goals. Identify opportunities to integrate volunteers across IAAP departments (e.g., Certification, Education, Foundation, Community).
How the Committee Operates
Manages and oversees volunteer application and selection processes.
Evaluates candidate qualifications, leadership readiness, and alignment with IAAP values.
Ensures equitable and unbiased assessment in all selection decisions.
Recommend process improvements to enhance transparency and inclusivity.
Position Criteria Requirements
Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) preferred but not required.
Must have prior leadership experience and familiarity with IAAP’s volunteer ecosystem.
Must be an active IAAP member in good standing.
Must have previous experience as a Regional Director, Branch Director, or Volunteer Chair.
Must have an understanding of IAAP’s mission, governance, and volunteer structure.
Should have strong ethical judgment and maintain confidentiality in reviewing applications.
Must have experience in candidate assessment, selection, or leadership development.
Must be able to evaluate candidates objectively, free from bias.
Must demonstrate commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB).
Specific Position Criteria
Time Required: 2-4 hours per month
Term Length: Two (2) years (Governance Year runs July-June)

Notes:
The VSC plays a pivotal role in maintaining fairness, transparency, and alignment with IAAP’s leadership expectations. Members must uphold impartiality, confidentiality, and a shared commitment to equitable representation.
VSC members should receive annual training on inclusive selection practices and unconscious bias awareness.
