2026 Innovation Scholarship Sponsored by the Pettinger Foundation
Description
The Greater Arlington Chamber, in partnership with the Pettinger Foundation, is proud to offer four (4) $5,000 scholarships to benefit students who are currently enrolled at the University of Texas at Arlington and are on track to obtain a four-year engineering degree and/or a graduate degree.
Pettinger Foundation Overview: The Pettinger Foundation was founded in 1999 to stimulate creativity and self-confidence in youth at the earliest opportunity in their educational process, to facilitate goal-oriented career path, and ultimately self-sufficiency and happiness throughout life with a long-term goal of benefiting society and improve life on earth.
UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
Two (2) $5,000 Scholarships to the University of Texas at Arlington
Eligibility Requirements
- An Engineering undergraduate student
- Currently enrolled in 12 or more credit hours at UTA
- Must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at UTA
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS
Two (2) $5,000 Scholarships to the University of Texas at Arlington
Eligibility Requirements
- Must have a Bachelor's degree
- Must be enrolled in a UTA Engineering graduate program of study
- Currently enrolled in 9 or more credit hours or whatever UTA's program deems to be full-time
- Minimum GPA of 3.0
Essay Prompt: Create an innovative product or service that will advance an engineering field for the betterment of humanity. Ideas/Inventions must be original and not currently marketed, patent-pending and/or posted as an idea on the internet.
Application Requirements:
- Essay (400-500 Word Count; MLA Format/Cited Sources)
- (2) Short Answer Questions (75-200 words each)
- Personal Statement (50-100 Words)
- One Academic and Community Recommendation
- Official Transcripts
- UTA UMap Degree Plan
Scholarship Intended Use: These scholarships are intended to be used for tuition and fees beginning the Spring 2024 semester. Funds may initially be split between the two semesters, at the discretion of the college/university. Any remaining funds will continue to roll from semester to semester until they have been exhausted. In the event the student transfers to another four-year university, the remaining funds are non-transferable.
Please note, the scholarship funds will not be applied to classes that are required to be retaken due to receiving a W or non-passing grade. These are merit-based and may impact any need-based or athletic scholarships you have or will be awarded.
Selection Process
The application will be scored on the following criteria: academic achievement and community engagement.
Members of the Greater Arlington Chamber of Commerce and the Arlington business community will evaluate all completed applications received. The essay will be evaluated based upon knowledge gained, scientific method of engineering goals, creativity, thoroughness and quality of presentation.
The top four scoring students will be selected to be interviewed by the Pettingers and/or a panel of three (3) or more judges to make the final decision.
