Experiences in Research is for high school students to gain hands-on experience with professionals at Berkeley Lab. Students will spend six weeks over the summer working directly on cutting edge projects alongside experts in STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematics). Projects will be focused on different aspects of STEM professions such as administration, science communication, data science, experimental research, and more. Students will be able to express their interests in their preferred project. Project descriptions can be found in the project booklet. In 2026, projects will be mostly hybrid with a few virtual. Please review the project booklet to see the work status. Please DO NOT reach out to the mentor directly. Students who violate this rule will be disqualified from the application process.
We encourage juniors and seniors from West Contra Costa and Alameda County with some experience in independent work to apply. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age by June 15, 2026. Interns will be working approximately 30 hours a week over the course of six weeks. This is a paid internship program. Interns will be paid $500 per week.
Students attending schools in the Oakland Unified School District should complete the ECCCO common application in addition to the EinR application.
