S.W.A.G. (Students Wired for Achievement and Greatness) Scholarship 2026

Introduction

For ten years, the S.W.A.G. Scholarship Awards have supported Detroit students whose potential deserves to be recognized. This program was created for young people who work hard, care about their communities, and are ready for new opportunities — even if their path hasn’t been perfect. As we celebrate a decade of impact, we remain committed to uplifting students whose stories, character, and determination matter just as much as their grades.

Description

Huntington Bank and the Michigan Chronicle present the S.W.A.G. (Students Wired for Achievement and Greatness) Scholarship Awards.

The goal of the S.W.A.G. Scholarship Awards is to build confidence, expand opportunity, and support Detroit teens as they pursue their next steps. The program creates a village of encouragement for students, parents, and educators — helping shape strong, grounded young adults who will contribute to Detroit’s future in meaningful ways.

Selection Process

Selection Process

Every completed application is reviewed with care by a panel of judges selected by Huntington Bank and the Michigan Chronicle. The S.W.A.G. Awards look beyond grades alone — judges focus on the heart of your story, your character, and the impact you’re making in your school or community.

Each submission is evaluated using three key areas:

  • Your story and authenticity (50%) — how you describe your goals, experiences, and personal growth

  • Clarity and writing quality (30%) — how clearly you communicate your ideas

  • Strength of your recommendation letter (20%) — how others speak to your integrity and involvement

After the review period, finalists will be contacted in May 2026, and scholarship recipients will be celebrated at the S.W.A.G. Awards ceremony in June. The process is designed to recognize students with promise, resilience, and drive — not perfection. Your voice and your journey matter here.
