QCaMP Student Application 2026
Description
Why QCaMP?
The workforce needs in quantum information science (QIS) are growing as experimental demonstrations advance powerful quantum technologies. However, the number of unfulfilled job vacancies increases every year, so there is tremendous potential for a highly-skilled workforce that can harness the promise of quantum advantage for meaningful applications.
QCaMP Goals:
Introduce students to an exciting new field that they might not otherwise know about
Reach more students by giving teachers the tools to introduce it in their classroom
Increase accessibility in the field of quantum information science by introducing concepts at an earlier education stage
When you complete QCaMP, you will have
The ability to think about solving computing problems in novel ways
Sample career paths, resources, and workforce opportunities to continue exploring
Hands-on experimental experience with quantum computing, sensing, and communications
Student Summer Camp: June 29 - July 24, 2026
Expected Meeting Times: Monday - Friday, 9:30am - 4:30 pm MT/ 8:30am - 3:30pm PT

Short Answer Questions: (Applicants must answer the required and ONE optional question.)
Required: Why are you interested in Quantum and what would you like to get out of this program?
Option 1: Outside of the classroom, how do you spend your time?
Option 2: What is a personal accomplishment (project, situation, job experience) that you are most proud of?
The strangeness of quantum physics is being harnessed to revolutionize computing as we know it. At QCaMP (Quantum, Computing, Mathematics, & Physics), you will get a primer on computing fundamentals, learn hands-on about quantum physics, and apply those phenomena to solve computing problems in new ways.
QCaMP is an in-person camp aimed at the high school level, with separate programs for high school teachers and students in California and New Mexico. QCaMP is FREE and participants receive a learning stipend.
You will gain experience creating circuits on a real-world quantum computer and gain access to learning resources. The only prerequisites for this camp are basic algebra and an interest in learning more!
QCaMP has been the Quantum System Accelerators innovative yearly educational program since 2022 for high school students and teachers from New Mexico and California. Since 2024, it is one of the DOE Office of Science WDTS Pathway Summer Schools.

Selection Process
Participants must be at least 16 years of age at the start of the program and reside in either New Mexico, Arizona (Navajo Nation) or Northern California. Students will need to reside within driving distance of in-person camps. Students must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents (green card holders) of the U.S.

About Berkeley Lab
The Academic Learning Internships and Faculty Training (A-LIFT) Office at Berkeley Lab Develops education programs to teach and support the next generation of scientists.
Our aim is to connect Berkeley Lab experts with students around the Bay Area to Excite them about the world of STEM, help them Explore STEM careers, and give them the Experience to pursue STEM in college and beyond.
