Rotary Club of Los Angeles (LA5) Annual 4-year College Scholarship 2025
Introduction
Description
Some Basics About Rotary
1) Rotary is a non-political, non-religious humanitarian organization.
2) Rotarians believe that we have a shared responsibility to take action on our world’s most persistent issues. We work together to: promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene, save mothers and children, support education, and grow local economies.
3) Rotarians follow a 4-Way Test (Please watch the video above). Of the things we think, say or do:
- Is it the TRUTH?
- Is it FAIR to all concerned?
- Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
- Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
4) The first Rotary club was founded in 1905. Today, there are more than 35,000 clubs in more than 200 countries. The Rotary Club of Los Angeles is the fifth oldest Rotary club in the world. That is why our club is proudly called "LA5."
About LA5's Scholarship Program
Scholarships are available to students who will be graduating high school within the County of Los Angeles and attending a four year college/university in the Fall.
We award scholarships in the amount of $10,000 to successful applicants each year. Scholarship money is paid in four equal installments of $2,500 starting the summer after graduation. In order to receive the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th installment, scholars are required to submit minimal additional info evidencing continued enrollment, minimum GPA, and 10 hours of community service.
Our scholarship money is paid direct to the scholars, not to the schools.
Our scholarships are very competitive. We plan to award 20 scholarships this year. Typically, students who received scholarships maintained an unweighted GPA between 3.7 and 4.0. Consistent with Rotary's 4-Way Test and its motto of "service above self," successful scholars also have a demonstrated track record and commitment to community service.
