Teaching Fellows Application 2024
Description
Teaching Fellows participate in advanced enrichment programs at Teaching Fellows Institutions and are involved with communities and businesses throughout the state. They receive up to $24,000 in fellowship funds (up to $6,000 a year for four years) while they complete a degree leading to South Carolina initial teacher certification.
Selection Process
Must be interested in becoming a South Carolina public school teacher
Must be a U.S. citizen or will be an eligible non-citizen under State Residency Statutes at the time of high school graduation
**Students categorized as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) are not eligible for Teaching Fellows**
Must be a legal resident of South Carolina
Must be a graduating senior (or junior graduating early)
Must be willing to attend a Teaching Fellows Institution
In order to complete the Teaching Fellows application, you will need:
Your school counselor’s contact information, including an email address.
Contact information for two references, one of whom MUST be a current teacher, counselor, or administrator or a teacher, counselor, or administrator from the 2023-24 academic year. The other reference must be another individual who is not a family member.
Your employment history, if applicable, including your employer's phone number.
A PDF or screenshot of all your ACT/SAT scores. Uploads must include your name, date of test administration, and scores. By uploading all of your scores, we can superscore and provide you with the most possible points.
In order for your application to be considered complete, you must:
Answer all mandatory questions in the online application by 11:59 PM on December 1, 2024.
Ensure that your high school transcript, with class rank included, and two reference surveys have been submitted in Kaleidoscope before 11:59 PM on December 6, 2024.
Upload all your ACT/SAT scores (if you have them) in Kaleidoscope’s application system.
The online application is the first step in the rigorous identification process for Teaching Fellows. All applications will be scored in December 2024.
Up to 500 qualifying applicants will then be invited to a regional interview. All applicants are notified as to whether they have been selected for this second phase of the process. The purpose of the interview is to assess the following: communication skills, commitment to education, knowledge of educational issues, leadership potential, originality, and problem-solving ability. While at the regional interview, applicants will also deliver a short presentation on a specific topic and complete a writing assessment. Students are given 30 minutes to respond to a written prompt.
